Don’t get me wrong, I love nature and as a mater of fact, I was just talking to my wife about how many people like to visit man made things instead of God created things on vacations.  However, the maple tree fruiting of my lawn (and my neighbors, and the street and…) can stop any time now:

Many big guns in the world of Christianity attended the summit this week.  Man I wish I could have gone.  They did some live Q&A sessions with some of the guys…check this one out with Mark Driscoll.

The other vids can be found here.  Some of you will recognize the guy in this one.

The loss of their daughter hit me this morning like so many others I’m sure.  I don’t know them personally and in the end, they are like anyone famous to me…distant  But loving daughters (and son) I can relate to and the thought of losing any of them tears me up.

Why things happen on the earth can be a mystery but God’s grace is sufficient for even a tragedy like this.  I only hope to never test that out.  I don’t often pray for “famous” people but today, I have said a few prayers for the family and for Steven in particular.  Being a strong father and husband during this time would be hard.

God bless the family.

UPDATE

Here is a short vid of Maria and Steven:

That…was almost too much to watch.

Leave them some good thoughts here.

Why are so many Christians dead to the Bible?  Some people would consider that too harsh a statement.   Maybe it just appears that Christians are dead.  Probably a more accurate statement would be to say that many people have hardened their hearts against the Bible.  In any case, I think it is a tragedy.   Shouldn’t we who call ourselves Christians, Christ followers, be in love with the Bible and be obsessed with living out authentic faith through Jesus Christ?  Are we not called to live a life that in every way has kingdom value?Let me be very clear about one thing:  the Bible is NOT dead and it is the living word of God.  My statements are not in criticism of the Bible but rather aimed at people who call themselves Christians but are not transformed by what they read and hear.So what has contributed to this phenomenon?  Is it just a current generation issue? Are people even aware that their lives are not being shaped into the image of Jesus?  These questions constantly haunt and motivate me.

Looking at the current state of Christianity, I see that the biggest contributing factor is that people are not being Continue reading »

Well we finally sold our Durnango Durango and bought a little Jetta.  I put the Durango up on Craigslist a few times and then also Autotrader.com.Jetta  I sold it off from Autotrader.com but I wasn’t very agrressive on Craigslist.  I never knew how many cars are put up there everyday.  It is really amazing.  Advertising in the local paper seems so archaic now.

The Jetta is a 1997 and so it has a bunch of miles but it runs great and will last.  No more $80 fill ups for me.   I haven’t driven a manual in years but so far I like it. I might change my mind after all the daily commutes but…I’m in for the long haul now.  And the best part is no car payments.  I hate car payments.

Oh, and I joined junkycarclub.com too.   The story they link to on this post has me really thinking about the way I drive.  Here is the jist of the article:

“In a typical family sedan, every 10 miles per hour you drive over 60 is like the price of gasoline 60going up about 54 cents a gallon. That figure will be even higher for less fuel-efficient vehicles that go fewer miles on a gallon to start with.”

Yikes.  Time to slow down.

Man do I wish the Tesla cars were in mass production.

I don’t even know what to say about this story.  It is just so amazing.  I don’t know if I should laugh, cry or be angry.  Maybe a little of everything.

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) – A 17-year-old girl gave birth secretly at home, then walked four blocks to a hospital with the baby still attached by its umbilical cord.

“I was just a little nervous” when the labor began, Xochitl Parra said Friday from St. Mary Medical Center as she cradled her 8-pound, 3-ounce son, Alejandro.

The boy was normal and “eating like a champ,” said Dr. Jose Perez, director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The teenager said she was alone and taking a shower around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday to get ready for school. Then the contractions took over.

“I felt his head coming, so I sit down and pushed so he could come out,” she said.

I just….I’m speechless.
